In the educational process of universities, an increasingly significant place is given to the application of innovative teaching methods, the formation of competent specialists is necessary. The transfer of innovative physical culture and sports technologies into the practice of the educational process in physical culture and the formation of professional and applied physical preparedness of students is one of the main tasks of the modern process of physical education of youth. The implementation of innovations in physical education in educational organizations of higher education is carried out in accordance with the organizational and methodological principle of freedom of choice of the form of physical education. In our opinion, the freedom to choose directions for physical education motivates students to engage in systematic physical exercises, and contributes to increasing the level of their professional-applied physical fitness. The implementation of this principle should be carried out both in organized forms of motor activity within the educational process and in the process of independent physical exercises.
